Death After Debt, When Estate Law and Bankruptcy Law Intersect

Presented by: Lawrence V. Young, Esquire of CGA Law Firm

Sponsored by: York County Bar Association, CGA Law Firm, and Savant Wealth Management

Please join us on February 20, 2024 at the Country Club of York for an educational course offered by the York County Estate Planning Council, a program of the York County Bar Foundation, on Death After Debt. The speaker for this event will be Lawrence V. Young, Esq of CGA Law Firm.

In this presentation, Larry will be discussing in depth how Estate Law and Bankruptcy Law often intersect. The topics will include how assets (including Trusts, retirement accounts, life insurance policies, marital property potential inheritances, already inherited assets, etc.) may be treated in a Bankruptcy. The presentation will address how various parties (including creditors, the deceased individual, the surviving spouse, or other heirs) are affected by death and Bankruptcy. The discussion will cover situations where the decedent was in a Bankruptcy at the time of their death, or where the decedent is leaving an inheritance to a Debtor in, or recently in, a Bankruptcy. Larry will conclude with an overview of current case law on whether an Estate itself can file for Bankruptcy.
